In this video i walk you through a typical setup that i do once i install a fresh copy of Ubuntu Linux on a Laptop. This is similar to my previous video showing off the Toshiba Portege M700's touch screen ability. I show you how to Enable Advanced Desktop Effects, Edit the look of the Terminal as well as give it a hot key for emergencies, Install Avant Window Navigator (AWN DOCK), Install Stalonetray (System Tray), Install Gnome-do, Install Screenlets, Install Compiz Fusion as well as enable hiding of the Screenlets with its hot key, Installing a Theme, Icons and Wallpaper.

  • Can i switch back to pc if i dont like it without losing my settings from windows 7?

  • @TheBlog999 You can dual boot your PC with both Linux and Windows. When you start up your computer, you can choose either Windows or Linux. If you currently have Win7 installed, go ahead and boot from a Linux CD. It will take care of the rest for you.

  • wow mate, I've been using ubuntu for a year now and this taught me quite a lot. Five stars and fav'd for sure.

    Thanks.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it :) More to come!

  • This is a a great video thanks but i just have one question i cant manage to put my firefox icon on the dock?

  • Sorry about the late reply. You probably already figured out how to do this, but you can simply drag and drop things to your bar, or go into Dock Prefs and add a launcher in there. It's also nice to go find some nice high res png icons for your new launchers :D

  • shit is so minimalistic! like asian cock!

  • As you can see from the videos title, it was meant for Ubuntu 9.04 and earlier versions. I have replied to your email as well.

  • I followed the instructions on your blog, but now after installing gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks the login screen theme is gone, it looks really awful. Also I can't find the human theme that comes with Ubuntu, I really like it. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. any help will be appreciated!!
