This course was named after Super Mario World's Donut Plains (World 2), following Nintendo's tradition of delivering "delicious" places to explore.

Curiously, the track design appears to have been inspired by Super Mario World's overall map, only flipped to show an inverse image. Simply google for "Donut Plains" images and you'll get it.

Donut Plains 1 has got lots of twists, a couple of them covered with mud. Unlike in GBA's Mario Kart Super Circuit, the DS version of Donut Plains 1 is truly faithful to the SNES course. That means this time we have the mud, the original background and the pipes.

Apart from the revamped 3D graphs, there are some minor visual changes, such as the darker mud, which looks a lot better (and slippery) this time around. And for some reason Nintendo has decided to change the pipe colours from orange to green - personally I prefer the orange pipes, but never mind.

Donut Plains 1 music remains as good as always, a happy tune replete with whistles and a delightful beat. The only thing I miss is the louder sound of loose timbers when you cross the wooden bridge.

As to the gameplay, Donut Plains 1 is a great place to race, albeit a short one. Not as short as SNES Mario Circuit 1 indeed, but again, adding two more laps would've been nice. With only three laps to complete the race, I felt like Homer Simpson staring at a sugary donut: you know it won't last more than a few seconds...

Nintendo's Staff Ghost for SNES Donut Plains 1 is 1:08:027. Although my Japanese "stinks", I think the player has the nickname "Ninten*Shibata", or something like that. Anyway, I just want to say our "Shibata-san" is a very good Mario Kart player, taking advantage of Dry Bones and his Dry Bomber tank, I mean, kart.

In fact, Dry Bomber is one of the best choices when you're planning to drive over muddy roads, rough grounds or even grass. So it's easily understandable why this is one of the snakers' favorite karts.

Shibata-san performs more powerslides than I'd expect from a Staff Ghost, and that allows him to get a shortcut through the grass in all three laps. Since I didn't want to do that, at least not without a mushroom, beating the Staff Ghost time became more challenging than usual.

I knew Shibata-san had got the upper hand, so I had to strive for perfect turns and timed powerslides. At the end I had finally succeeded, with a personal record of 1:07:748. That's a pretty close call, I reckon, but under the circumstances, I'm really happy about it.

This video is dedicated to my brothers, and I hope it keeps the tradition of the Calvache Bros. Since our childhood we've been praising the good games out there by clearing/completing them with sharp eyes, fast fingers, dedication, patience, careful thinking and honour... and this FUN.

  • Nice map in the description. Must take a lot of time and patience.

  • @SomeFluffer64 Not that much, actually. I've seen the "charmap" Mario and Yoshi sprites in your profile, and those must've taken a lot longer to complete. And boy, they look awesome.

  • @NIGMAnsider yeah, they were wuick to make. How did I get them? 3 words. Copy and Paste! You may put them up in your profile if you like.

  • @SomeFluffer64 Well that's quick! LOL. Thanks, pal. Almost forgot: you guys have made a wonderful NSMBWii walkthrough, congrats! It's amazing to see how good you are at this game. It's practically a fan made Super Skills video!

  • In my time race is 1:07:481. Check it out.

  • @nintendofree21 Watched your videos just now! Really cool, mate! The replay from Super Mario Kart looks totally old school. And the MK DS video is awesome. You're faster than me, bro. Kudos for that.

By the way, I'm glad you've used my ASCII map for the SNES video comment. Feel free to include it in the DS video description as well ;)

  • @mattkd100

You're welcome, mattkd100! Glad you liked it. Indeed, beating this Staff Ghost was a real challenge (without snaking, that is).

By the way, your Metroid II video is great. That's the first time I watched a coloured version. I was used to the typical black and white Game Boy "palette" (LOL). Nice tip for defeating that Boss.

  • this level is inpossible to unlock the staff ghost. thnx for this video
