The magnitude 8.9 earthquake that struck Friday off the coast of Japan is going to be among the top 10 earthquakes recorded since we have had seismographs.

It's bigger than any known historic earthquake in Japan.

Geologists had expected the portion of the Ring of Fire that produced this quake to yield a 8.5
Thursday's quake occurred in the Japan Trench, where the Pacific tectonic plate slides under the Japan plate.

Scientists did not expect such a big quake

There have been two aftershocks of magnitude 7 or greater.

The quake was very shallow. The quake was 80 miles offshore with 15-foot wave.

the wave started spreading out away from Japan at about 500 mph.

Its suppose to reach Hawaii just before 3 a.m and the West Coast around 8 a.m. PST.

They are not sure how high the waves will be by the time they reach U.S. shores. The buoys are monitoring the waves power and speed.

The largest quake on record was the 9.5 Chile in 1960.
The west coast of the united states in California has also been given a tsunami warning.
And last year on January 12, 2010 Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake.
There has been several earthquakes since then.
A nuclear reactor has also been affected along with an oil refinery. We must all pray for Japan!

What's all the talk about god & religion are we still cave men believing in witch doctors and such mumbo jumbo? Its merely tectonic plate movement caused by the super "perigee moon’’ magnetic pull being closest to earth for 20 years, next one will be in 2029. Open your minds and don't allow your thoughts to go further than religion and make up scape goat's, think for your selves, we are just recycled space dust in the scheme of things, all forces have a cause and affect.

Tectonic plate movement, no gods, just nature and a cooling earth. If you feel like helping out the folks who have been affected by this natural disaster, please send some cash to the Red Cross. The Japanese are not a Christian Nation, you might as well burp the alphabet, it would hold about as much meaning for them.
