Welfare Reform

We must put an end to people who have welfare not contributing anything to the common good. Dignity is gained when one at least earns something toward their upkeep, AND we can use the man (or woman) power. Here are a very few ideas on how to go about putting a plan of action into work.

Even if you never lived with them, that attitude that someone should have to downgrade their life because others can't aspire to more is crazy. We all are responsible for our own lifestyle and people who make one feel bad for living in something nice is just JEALOUS!

THE MILITARY is perfect for the POOR!! Thats what I have been thinking!! Right now the government is offereing 20,000$ sign on bonus and up to a potential 20,000$ more for college!! Bam that'll help with thier ignorance problem.. December 1st I leave for Iraq and guess what I get, I should come home with 30,000$ tax free. I am going to finish out one last semester before I go, PAID FOR BY THE NATIONAL GUARD.. Its awesome, I would have never gone to college any other way.

many are. and when you add in medicare, medicaid, social security benefits, disability, food stamps, and combine those services, that adds up quick.

i can understand the anger when i see someone in government housing with a brand new car in the driveway while im driving a 91 ranger, that barely runs and pay my taxes and pay into Social Security that wont be available when i need it.

@micksauntie People stay in a revolving door of poverty by choice, it's that simple. When are people going to start holding other people responsible for their current situations? I lived in my car for 3 weeks before, and managed to take care of myself on a PT $6 an hour job for a year. The only assistance I had was $10 a MONTH in food stamps for 3 months. I eventually overcame all that. Everyone I have met who is on welfare has no desire to come off it. How many people do you know on welfare?

@StephanieLin Yeah I think its sad when someone working a full time job making minimum wage or a bit more lives in worse conditions than someone on welfare with numerous children. That was my reality for about a year, I was lucky to afford internet access and my cell phone. I only qualified for $10 a month in food stamps for 3 months, and I was not eligible for any other assistance because I had ZERO children. People wonder why welfare mom's have 5-10 children, they get awarded more money.

In my opinion, the benefits of welfare are too great. One can feed themselves on $100 a month if they are careful about what they buy. Public housing can be truly public: public sleeping quarters, public bathrooms, no living space because these people should not have space to sit around, they should be out hoofing it looking for work. Make welfare benefits so measly, and just the bare minimum to survive, that only the laziest of people would chose it over working.
