No kidding they would say just anything to get the contestant the money. On one occasion when time was running out, David Letterman tried doing the rhyming technique with "things that cling", but the judge caught him.

@7sevo7 Unfortunately the episodes prior to 1978 were wiped out of the existence and only episodes taped by people at home (like this one which is two months before the point when all episodes are intact) exist for earlier than that. We've found some cases of contestants who had their appearances taped at the time but it's too bad when it can't be reciprocated for those who didn't tape them thanks to shortsighted network preservation practices.

I wouldn't want Adrian Barbeau to my my partner.
While she was giving clues I wouldn't hear her because I'd be staring at her boobs!

An overflowing trash can.

You'll notice "Luggage in moving vans" was an acceptable clue at this time whereas down the road in the $20k version, it would most likely get zapped.

Question: since they dealt with sounds of words couldn't she have won because "package" is related sound-wise to "packed"? If she had said "things that you unpack" they would have given it to her because of the sound of the word. give her the $! it's only 30 years later. :)))

Try FIVE years earlier. Only the CBS $10,000 Pyramid shows were lenient. ABC Pyramid was always strict.

That was really close there. When we have little time left we will just say anything to win that money. She was close when she said the word PACKAGE it almost seems like it would be acceptible; maybe 3 years ago but not the era of $20,000. Again; close but no cigar.
My mom won $10,000 in '76 with Adrienne B. As her celebrity co-contestant. Does someone have a copy of that episode?
