I'm learning how to utilize the animation capabilities of Unity 3D. This demo primarily exhibits the animation blending, as it is possible to blend several animation states at once. This makes the swimming look much more fluid from one animation to the next.

  • @CocoaValley Looks pretty nice!

Although, something that bothers me is that (at the part where it makes the jump) it seems to fall at a constant rate into the water instead of meeting any resistance (e.g. smashing into it - it's a whale, so it's pretty heavy regardless of its underwater grace ^^).

Also there's a few parts where the animation seems to flip out slightly, one of the most obvious are at 0:28.

You might've fixed this stuff by now, but thought I'd mention it ^^

  • @Aragashia Yes, some things still need work! The gravity does decrease relative to the water depth, but maybe I should ramp that up more for emphasis. I'm still working on more convincing splash/particle effects as well.

The swim animation speed is tied to the velocity, so it pauses while the whale is falling/sinking back to swimming depth and that needs to be addressed. The additive blending really shows redundant animations when they stack, I have fixed some of those.

    Thanks for the CC :)

  • That is really, really pretty, I'm impressed.

  • @POOPTURTLE Thanks!

  • nice work! how did you get the caustics on the whale?

  • @Frankrs3d Thank you :) I wrote a script that assigned a loop of images to a light cookie.

  • I love how much better the animation blending is here than on the dragons in Skyrim. Looks phenomenal!

  • @4858chris Thank you! They are so graceful and I really tried to capture that.

  • wow that's good ... the whale looks very realistic
