I pass this hillside on my daily commute to San Francisco. It is a silent, eerie, and powerful image. Unfortunately, as of this date (9/23/2009), the total number of dead is 5,166, with no immediate end in sight.
I feel that this depicts the harsh realities of war and hits you on a personal level when you see the over 4,000 crosses on the hillside representing fallen Americans of the "war". We as Americans are fortunate enough to be fighting a war oversees and not on our own soil, where we only see what the mainstream press allows us to and not the true devastation that is occurring every day in Iraq. The whole purpose of this is for people to be aware of the severity of the situation.
Thank you for doing this. I am saddened every time I drive by, but reminded of those men and women who have given their lives for us. For that I am forever grateful. Thank you!
How many soldiers injured? How many lives and families ruined? How many innocent Iraqi lives lost and ruined?
I think it's possible to both protest a war (that was a mistake) AND honor the fallen. And someone that protests a war that was started based on lies isn't necessarily a pacifist. Thank God war mongers didn't get their way during the cold war...
Thank you for reminding us that each number represents a human being. Work for peace.
