'From the West' is a symbolically driven, experimental, self-promotional motion graphics animation created as my final Design & Digital Media MA project. It was based loosely on Baum's 'The Wizard of Oz' and it explored new ways to promote illustration through the use of digital technologies. A fundamental principle looked at the use of the fairy tale in popular culture and the ways artists continue to merge the boundaries between fantasy and reality, producing lands of wonder, that often look real but only last for that split second while they pass before your eyes. 'From the West' aimed to retain the magic of the fairy tale in a culture that has made the fairy tale a marketable commodity.
