He probably just picked it because it is a northern state. I live in Mid-Ohio and I agree that outside of Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati it is mostly rednecks living out in the sticks. But I bet he picked it because people generally think that country folks only live in the south, so he was trying to show that they live everywhere, even a northern state like Ohio.

I'll never understand why he chose Ohio though...anyone living here can tell you this land is mostly cornfields outside the three main cities. And Cincinnati may be suburban sprall, but it's got a huge country mentality. Still a great song though.
