I pity this fruitcake. I hope God eats this delicious fruitcake to prevent more EULAs from being foisted on consumers.

As a follow-up, I can see on my first-mover friends that mobiles will be the future for most. I still do not believe that everyone will find it convenient to use a tablet for AutoCAD, though, and another problem will be optimizing the one million+ programs for Windows for a real touch device. Small icons is one problem here. Easy to get to with a mouse, horrible with touch.

What you write sounds very objective. It's clear from where I see it, that windows8 is a failure on desk top, but I agree, though I haven't tried it yet on mobile devices, this is where it has gotten some good reviews. I think users will notice that, yes.
Problem for Microsoft seems to be available apps on mobile, more than usability.

Keep in mind though that in terms of mobile, Windows Phone is the fastest growing OS and has, according to data I've seen, higher satisfaction rate. It's also a fact that WP8's average speed and stability is much stronger than the average Android.
I'm not very sure if PC sales will recover - that will only happen if Microsoft develop and release a 'hero' next version like XP or 7.
The Metro and Live Tiles are awesome on WP, but on Windows 8 PCs, it's a setback, especially for enterprise users.

Depends on what you see as Linux. If you take mobile. Microsoft has not much to say, and Linux has everything to say via Android.
Last time I checked, PC sales were in a decline, which means, Microsoft is loosing market share on their main OS. Part of the reason is Windows8's poor design that makes it hard for users to understand and inefficient for businesses to use.
