start of my video diary (lets see how long that lasts lol) of me learning the dulcimer. At the end I show the front and back of My dulcimer, I got it used, I think it was made in the late 70's, and doesn't have a 6 1/2 fret, solid wood spruce top, either walnut or mahogony box, It sounds good when I get it tuned right. learning the dulcimer is realy helpful to me, because it is good therapy for my fingers, hands, and thinking process... all that had been trashed from an auto accident, it is nice to get more of my coordination and thought processes back.
This video is also good for a beginner because I was able to see and hear many bad habits I'm starting, I recommend videos as a good learning tool.

  • Joelle, have you forgotted about us? I wish you'd come back! We miss you!

  • Nooo I think of you guys at least once a day :), I've been sick and in to much pain to do more than take care of myself & family, who are pretty angry at me too since I can't do much, I hope spring and better weather will change my situation, you will have to come and visit me, I will be home next week. where is my "road" tab you promised??? :P

  • Keep on playing no matter what. If you have to carry music with you so what! At least your playing. Music is a beautiful thing and the simplicity of the dulcimer is wonderful. No American Idols here. Dulcimer players are great and very laid back people. Everybody comes to it at different levels. Play daily and your skills will develop. Check out my videos they are very basic. I have only been playing for one month. But I can see that I am improving daily. You will improve I promise! God Bless!

  • true true, you are soo right! I checked out your video such good rhythm for a beginner.

you will do very good, and thank you for your encouragement!!!

  • Very nice! I don't know anything about proper technique for playing the dulcimer so I didn't notice you doing anything wrong! Hope you are doing well after your accident, I wish you well for a complete recovery. Much peace and happiness to you! Take care. --Dave

  • ty, I have improved, yet the brain trauma keeps me from memorizing and playing up to speed most songs, which takes the fun out, to have to carry music every time I play, but I don't give up hope... by the time I get close to having my mind and body recovered if it's possible... I think that aging will pull me back down ahh thats life. dulcimer is a very fun and versatile instrument, so I can't put it down.

I am a beginner, and I totally agree. Just play, play, play. You may develop your own style but that is okay. I am struggling with moving about on the keyboard with ease., kind of choppy, But it is all about daily playing and getting practice. You sound great....

  • always play that is what music for is to share and enjoy. It is a universal language it has no boundaries on when to start or stop. Never think that you are to "old" to start playing. I am a living testament that you can start at any age. I never played anything until I was 49. I will soon to be 51 and I play the upright bass, and banjo also which is my "first love". I play dulcimer too and that is what initially got me started. Be blessed!!!!

  • @girlswithguitars859 when i first got my hands on a dulcimer(last week), i created a song that would send dueling banjo's running.... the dulcimer is such a beautiful instrument, and i play it when i am idle on the internet. i wanna practice violin but i think they might be too expensive

    i'll look at your video

  • Just did a live video of myself wildwood flower so people could see me play better
