Ignaz Friedman (February 14, 1882 -- January 26, 1948) was a Polish pianist and composer. Critics (e.g., Schonberg and colleagues (e.g., Rachmaninoff) alike placed him among the super-virtuosi of his day, in the stratosphere of Godowsky, Rosenthal, and Lhevinne. This happenstance home movie was shot in Central Park in 1929. Audio is clip from 1981 performance of Isaac Albéniz's Malagueña by pianist David Edward Smith. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLuPi_rknfk
At the outbreak of the Second World War Friedman was on a concert tour in Australia and, unable to return to Europe, remained there until his death. Partial paralysis of his left hand forced him to retire from the concert platform in 1943.

  • I can hear that, but I suspect BOTH owe a great deal to the vivid imagination and daring of Alfred Cortot, Truecrypt.

Wish you'd post more of YOUR playing. No one would think you vain, believe me. We'd be very grateful.
