If fighting in hockey is "bad" for the sport, then WHY do the fans CHEER every time a fight breaks out?? I don't see fans turning away or leaving their seat, they're standing & CHEERING everytime a fight breaks out in hockey! Why can't society ACCEPT that???

It is for the refs safety...Refs are taught this. You NEVER EVER want to step into a fight unless you are prepared to take one to the jaw.....If that happens, it is totally the refs fault....Once the players are worn out or on the ice it is then safe for the ref to get involved.

You are exactly right....Any true hockey fans understands it is simply a part of the game. We do not ask for it or hope it happens, but when it does we except it as men working out on ice issues. The best games are typicalyl those in which we see no fighting (Such as typcial playoff games) but when it happens it is what it is...Part of the game.

people cheer for 2 things in hockey (INCLUDING THE BENCHES) goals and fights.......and the fights get longer cheers.....our society is getting soft....let them fight its part of the game why does everyone have such a problem with that? THEYRE HOCKEY PLAYERS! why do people cry out about brutality!? these are men on skates with armor and weapons its not a ballet recital or a chess match what the hell do people expect.....its fucking HOCKEY
