Houmas Plantation and Gardens was also used for the movie "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" with Betty Davis and Joan Crawford. Oak Alley was used in "Interview with a Vampire".

  • Beautiful house... wish we had ones like this where I'm from in Canada. Out of curiosity, how much does a plantation like this cost?

  • @Unkn0wnGuy

Hi, thanks for commenting. I suppose it is worth over a million. Before Hurricane Katrina, there was a Plantation for sale along with 4 other buildings in the River Road area and it was around $400,000. It probably wasn't that grand! There were alot before the civil war, and most were just basically homesteads.

Nicholas Cage almost bought Nottoway Plantation and that would have been for several million. I heard that an investor from Canada owns that plantation.

  • Interesting bit of trivia: Joan Crawford was originally cast in Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte, but soon after filming began she had to be replaced and Olivia de Havilland took over the role.

  • Thanks for your comment! I didn't know that.

  • My friends took me on a River Road tour one Saturday, the trip of a lifetime.I had read all about these houses beforehand. The dreamy music of your video is just perfect.

  • Thank-you......River Road is wonderful. I'm glad you were able to see all of houses in person!

  • @DakotaPuma This would have been the second movie to put the two rivals together! Of course, I am talking about Bette and Joan. I love the way the movie turned out, but am curious as to how it would have turned out with those two finishing the movie together. I mean besides overbudgeted. Check out the you tube listing for Backstory Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. Almost as good as the movie itself! Thank you for this posting, love your music!

  • @12345vjd Thank you for your response! That Canadian investor has great taste :)

Thanks for the video - great pictures and I like the song... very relaxing. Cheers!

  • Thanks....the plantations are wonderful in Lousiana. There's alot more to the New Orleans area than Bourbon Street.

What a fun job you have!!!!

  • Hello 12345vjd. How odd that I would leave you a message here. I left one for you at another members video site on you tube regarding Nottoway Plantation because I was a tour guide there from March 2006-April 2008. Now I am a tour guide at Houmas House and Gardens. Thanks for saying such nice things about the existing River Road homes, not many people know about them so what you are doing is good.
