Uploaded by request, Mr. Handford (Leonard Jackson) became the new owner of Hooper's Store in season 21 after David's (Northern Calloway) retirement. Unfortunately, Northern died on January 9th, 1990 . Snuffy and Alice call him HANDFOOT. However, after this season, Leonard retired and was replaced by David L. Smryl who continued Mr. Handford's role for the next eight years.

  • Bet they showed the 1972 version of Everybody Sleeps in this episode. Anybody have confirmation of that?

  • I can certainly say to you that they did not show that clip in this episode.

  • wasn't this the 2nd street scene in this episode right after elmo told gordon we got a letter from david?

  • Yes.

  • I think the episode would have been better if they actually would have included Northen Calloway in it, selling the store to Mr. Handford. And there could have been a big farewell party for him on Sesame Street. What do you think?

  • whatever has happened to leonard jackson and david smyrl

they don't make appearences in public anymore

  • @mrsgreen2007 Haven't you heard? He moved to a farm to live with his grandmother, according to Gina and Gordon.

  • David seemed younger than Mr Hanford

  • Snuffy and Mr. Handford are like Big Bird and Mr. Hopper. They get the names mixed up.

  • @jonnytbirdzback man poor dave he was cool

  • From 4:09-4:14 if Mr. Handford thinks that nothing will keep him awake and once he falls asleep (that is, if he ever got to go to sleep even though he didn't), and his alarm clock rings, he probably would have slept through the ringing if he thinks that nothing will keep him awake.

  • Oh yes that's right, my mistake. I remember Leonard Jackson on Shining Time Station and somehow I thought he was one of the train conductors. I remember Ringo Starr and George Carlin as train conductors where they were very small characters (I don't remember too much about Shining Time Station so I'm not sure why they were small) and sometimes they would blow a whistle to tell a story about a certain train, like Thomas the Train. I definitely know Leonard Jackson was never small.

  • @afriendofbean Actually, Leonard Jackson's STS character, Harry Cupper, was an engineer, not a conductor. There were two Mr. Conductor characters, but they were played by Ringo Starr and George Carlin.

  • @musicbox193 Actually, they did do it with the other human characters. Gordon has actually been played by three actors since the show began. He was first played by Matt Robinson from 1969-1972, then Hal Miller from 1972-1974, and finally Roscoe Orman from 1974 on.

  • howcome they got a new actor to play the same character for Mr. Handford but they didn't do that with any of the other human characters?
