On the fast track to the Major Leagues, Lompoc native Danny Duffy has decided to take a leave from baseball.
The Kansas City Royals said Danny left the team's camp yesterday after telling the team he was leaving to reassess his life priorities.
The lefty has been out of action for much of Spring Training with elbow stiffness. He was considered the organization's eighth best prospect.
The Royals drafted Danny in the third round of the 2007 Draft on the same day he graduated from Cabrillo High School.
In three minor league seasson, Danny was 19-10 with a 2.49 ERA earning an All-Star appearance and spot in the Futures Game, which showcased Minor League baseball's 50 top prospects.
Danny was expected to begin the season at Double-A ball. The Royals said they would welcome Danny back if he decides to return to the game.
Duffy becomes the second Central Coast star to leave the game in 2010. Former Cal Poly star Grant Desme retired from baseball earlier this year to pursue the priesthood. Desme was one of the up and coming outfielders in the Oakland Athletics minor league system.
