Bono said that this song is about the death of his mother

@cbono69 I know that you posted this a year ago, but I understand somewhat of what you were going through. Mom did the same 4 years ago. It's hard, but for me, I knew it was her time.

@Pilaman82: Unfortunately they'd never play this today. Bono recently said "he'd forgotten the lyrics to the older songs". Sad really, because songs like these are ten times better than the current, gorilla excrement "Put On Your Boots" will ever be...

JESUS IS COMING!
-
how crazy would it be if they played this today ?
-
I think this is my favourite U2 song.
-
Hands down my favourite U2 song. If only they would play it live.
-
Great audio clip; thank you for posting. This is one song that definitely gets to me, as I can relate; I lost my mother when I was a young fellow, and that day was the worst of my existence. I can definitely sense the genuine pain in Bono's voice as he sings these lyrics. It's a heavy sentimental song, and one of their all-time best.

its def about jesus's second coming... he says "who heals the wounds who heals the scars" in studio version he screams at the end "jesus come back" and "i believe" bono and the edge's devout christianity almost split the band up in its very early days

Today my Mother has given up and i feel so alone,.,This song was the first U2 song i heard back when and it made my life change forever..Who ever thought Big Mullet hair would change my life and help me throught a death that has not happened...Please offer your words to help me.,,,Cbono..I need you NOW!!!

This says The Edge was playing Tin Whistle, (from Last FM website):
"For the War Tour, the band rehearsed a new live version [of Tomorrow]: October segued into it and the Uilleann pipes were replaced by The Edge playing a tin whistle."

Sorry, guess I didn't read!
The Edge is a very good tin whistler

@cookmoore heheh, no I only added those comments to my description after your question, although one guy reckons it was not Edge playing whistle but vincent kilduff (he played the uleian pipe in the studio version of tomorrow). Im trying to find that out as itd be nice to know. Either way I agree it was fine playing!

I think I can clear this one up. Having got to the see 5 dates on the war tour! 3 times I heard this version with the whislte and the Edge played it. On two dates (both London) They had Uilleann pipes which were played by someone not in the band which I would guess would of been Vincent Kilduff. I actually prefer the version with the whislte.
