Dr. Na'im Akbar ROCKS!!! My parents met Sam Greenlee once when he was speaking at Marcus Books in Oakland, CA. I was like "how is he?" and my mom was like "just like the spook who sat by the door" and i was like "DAAAYYUUMMM!" For me i'd say Dr. Arthur Lewis, for his research and work regarding Africans in the diaspora. Also Dr. Ernie Smith for his work on "Ebonics" and lectures and why "black" people speak as they do and how it's not "wrong" to speak that way.

The Spook Who Sat By the Door has been one of my top favorite novels since I first read it in the70's. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe I love. The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, great movie. Aida-opera, Tower of Power & Ohio Players-bands, Marcus Glenn-artist, Loretta Devine-actress, Keep your Head to the Sky-song, Sun Goddess-jazz cut, and of course Denzel Washington-actor, he could have been my husband LOL!

this is cool! Above all, my dad was always my hero, G-d rest his soul... well I love fencing, and I was so happy when I discovered Peter Westbrook, one of the very few talented black fencers around today... and it's funny you mention architecture, because, sadly, there aren't many black archi break-outs, but I really love Issa Diabate's vibe... I'm a big fan of breaking molds & being different without losing yourself in the process... Celeb crush: Mos Def - tippy top to toenail... lol

@gigimc Word on the architects. My BFF is working hard at becoming a licensed one. We look at the figures and there are very few minorities and even fewer women.
