Chapter 1

I cant remember living anywhere but here. Anywhere where I wouldnt wake up to Joes smiling face, Nicks quiet presence, and Kevins random remarks. Obviously I remember having a house where my parents lived and where I had a room, but I never really called it home. The Jonas home, on the other hand, was like my world, where Ive always been.
I was three when my mother, father, and I moved to New Jersey. We moved to the house next door to Denise and Pauls. They had three children; Kevin, Joseph, and Nicholas. I vaguely remember meeting them for the first time. We had moved in, the last of the cargo being shifted into its rightful room, when the doorbell rang. My mother and I ran over to open it, surprised to find Denise holding a plate of brownies. Behind her flower spring dress, three boys hid themselves.
My mother invited them in, apologizing for the mess of the house. She asked about Paul and what he did. She asked about Kevin, Joseph, and Nicholas. Kevin was about 9 years old. Joseph, or Joe, was about 6. And Nicholas, or Nick, was 3 going on 4. Of all the brothers, I noticed Nick. He was quiet and shy, with curly hair that bounced on his head. He had pink cheeks and a tiny, lost smile. I saw it when I said hi to him, the moment his entire face went red. I still remember Kevin making fun of him for blushing. It was at the moment, after seeing his lost smile, that I promised to myself that I would be the reason he smiles a full, truthful smile, at least once in his life. Denise was really nice, and she told me I was beautiful. I liked her; she gave me chocolate brownies.
Joe was funny and very clumsy. He said random, pointless comments that made me laugh. Kevin was more grown up but equally as nice. That moment, I wanted Kevin to be my brother. I wanted Joe to be my best friend. And Nick, well I dont know at that time how I felt since I was really young. But I knew he was someone special.
