  • I cannot understand American people sometimes. They go on about their great black singers like Beyonce Knowles and Mariah Carey and ignore others like Leontyne Price. To my mind, this lady should now be recognized.

  • So glad and rejoicing with your magnifiscent videos. Thanks!

  • She not only has a great singing voice, she has a great speaking voice.

  • @rksu747 When Leontyne sang, we just heard her voice on record. I had no idea she was even black. She just had a great voice. I worked for broadcasting, and Leontyne was definitely the number one singer. Her only competition from memory was the great Victoria de Los Angeles.

  • @swanningaround I understand where you are coming from but I fail to see how she is not recognized. She is very much a legend in music's history however, you should recognize that she earned that distinction while being of a hue that was shunned and discouraged from being part of the world of opera. In simpler terms, black people were not welcome in our nations opera houses and in the case of Leontyne, she fought to be an exception so that she could sing on the stage.

  • Sixty-five years perfect.

  • She sounds and appears to be out of breath while singing this. She takes breaths in the middle of phrases, and overshoots the capping high note. Perhaps the only performance of hers that I've seen in which she seemed capable of human failure. She looks radiant in her sequined white and dignified as always, but she sounded better singing an a capella "God Bless America" nearly ten years later at the 9/11 memorial.

  • @swanningaround Kiri Te Kanawa is not black. If you're going to try and make an intelligent point at least make sure what you're saying makes sense.

  • i'll to say thank u so much

  • The white male with the fro. He has the same greyed style in the other video where Ms. Price sings America the Beautiful lol...

  • a very great video-

  • @federic017 Thank you. I agree. Leontyne Price is a great world artist. Naturally black people and American people can be justly proud of her. Of course she is a top opera singer internationally, irrespective of where she comes from. :)
