Iv'e been going to the Kern since I was a kid in the late 1960's never had a problem. I just go to the places i know are safe and iv'e learned over the years the places that aren't.

O and also i caught about 15 trout and a couple of those cleaner fish, so ya, i guess im pretty good at fishing, i used the salmon eggs, really good to fish, but i also went to big bear and irvine lake, no luck, i only caught fish at kern, must be the times or wrong seasons i guess,and if your going to kern or anywhere in nature, i suggest you have a knife,good pair of boots,and a cell phone and if possible a air rifle or something.

i was at kern about 7 years ago and i really want to go again, but i have a couple bad memories of that place, one- a bear almost broke into our cabin,2-a snake swam across the river onto the rock i was on fishing and was about 3 inches from biting my foot, if the man fishing didn't grab me away i would be dead, i think, and i was just like so scared i couldn't move, lol anyways its really dangerous there, its no joke in kern.

I live in kern county and the kern river is only dangerous if ur being stupid in it or swimming in the wrong places I go tubing in the kern river every Sunday and I've never seen ne body die but that's me but there has been a lot of deaths so ya

the rapids spot is about 3 miles down the hill from John McNalley's. the rock slide is like 1 mile north of it. just go to John McNalley's on the way up and ask where the rockslide is. they will know.
