We took you on an adventure during the planting of the rice seedlings back during Golden Week in May. Now it is time for the harvest of this golden staple of Japan.

Follow us as we meander around the rice paddies ("tambo") enjoying the morning breeze, and smelling the fragrant aroma of freshly cut rice.

  • Your Japanese is very good. What do you do in Japan?

  • @LyricalLies14 Thanks for the compliment. Wow... I added this two years ago. How time flies. I have taught English, worked in the eyeglass industry, been a consultant, and now am in the pharmaceutical industry over in Tokyo - I don't live where this video takes place anymore, which is very unfortunate (my business dried up thanks to Lehman Brothers).

  • the problem here in the Philippines is the high cost of production, fuel cost trigger the high price of the rice, high fertilizer price, low government support, fertilizer scam, corruption ..

  • Jerry - Here the government controls the rice and shuts out all the foreign rice, keeping the rice prices high, while the farmers suffer. It's not pretty.

  • lol loved the story at (3:00) Few people would admit to that! I wonder if the farmers were looking at you saying crazy gaijan. lol. What do you suppose the pail is for (4:15) that the farmer has strapped to his backside? For trash he might come across? Interesting vid(s) thanks for sharing! 5 stars!

  • Vinnie - The pail holds the little rice seedlings they use to fill in the blanks.

  • hey its my birthday! september 10 1997

  • so cool lol !

  • Back breaking work. What amzez me as how a lot of ppl mindlessly throw rice/food out without ever giving a thought to the whole production/process of planting, caring, growing, harvesting and transportingetc etc

  • the government distributed hi-bred seeds to the farmers but the seeds don't germinate well. it's an old stock like NFA rice.

  • Palam - Thanks! I hope you continue to enjoy them, and make it to Japan one day.
