The early exposure of Sissel to a excessively heavy singing programme raised fears that she would wreck her voice as did the classical sopranos Anna Moffo and Geraldine Farrar. You can hear the strain in some parts of this otherwise beautiful performance. Wisely she chose to concentrate on the role of a "cross over" soprano which enabled her voice to survive her grueling work load. She certainly has a far better voice than her contemporaries Brightman, Westenra and Jenkins.

For me, this is the best female version. The males are probably better, like Jussi, Enrico, Elvis and Mario.

I love this version so much. She was very young ( 18? ) when this was recorded.

I can catch a glimpse of the heaven when hearing Sissel's "O Helga Natt".

My goodness...so beautiful. No words can express the feeling I have right now...tears flowing in response to such beauty. THIS has ALWAYS been my FAVORITE Christmas song. Such strong, and beautiful emotion expressed. Perfect

People of every nation, tribe, people and language, shall worship him.
Jesus knows his sheep and they know his voice.
Love your singing even if I'm ignorant of your language the one who gave each of us the ability to speak does.

I find the translation from another video "Jesus our Saviour - O Helga Natt (Sissel Kyrkjebø)"

O holy night, o holy moment for the world,
when the Son of Man to Earth descended
To reconcile the world's transgressions and sins,
for us He suffered the pain of death.
And the ray of hope passes through the world,
and the light shimmers above land and ocean.

People, fall on your knees, and welcome your redemption.

Part II

Because our Saviour took our heavy burdens to the cross
Our Earth is free, Heaven is open
In your slave you see a beloved brother,
and see, your enemy becomes dear to you
From Heaven our Saviour brought us peace,
for us He went down in His silent grave.
