Our christmas light display for 2008: "Wizards In Winter" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

The display is fully computer controlled and synchronized to music. We have over 70,000 lights, on almost 300 individually controllable channels. All the music synchronization is done by hand, and it takes about 10 hours per minute of music -- so this song took about 30 hours to do!

The music is played on speakers for viewers, but also broadcast over low-power FM (on 91.7 FM) so people can tune their car radios to it.

This year, we have decided to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation, who work wonders for sick children. If you'd like to make a donation, visit http://www.workingwonders.com.au/ -- or if you come to see the show in person and have enjoyed the lights, pop any spare change you have in our collection tin! :-)

Thanks for watching. If you're in Brisbane and want to come see the show, you can find us on Childs Street, in Rochedale South - feel free to pop in and say Hi!

  • Just came back from watching this again after watching it a few times last year and taking different people to see it. The funny thing is we drive for miles to check out winning neighbourhoods and streets and the real winner remains in the next suburb. Nothing tops this. Have you won anything in any of the Christmas lights competitions? It's a travesty if you haven't.

  • Thanks! That's really kind of you. No, we don't win anything in the competitions; they seem to prefer the houses that just throw as much up as they can, and have the inflatable santas, etc. But that's OK, they're just looking for a different style of thing I think.

Check out my 2009 videos -- you can find them over the right hand side, under "More from sallz0r". They're a lot better quality and easier to make out!

    Cheers,

    Michael

  • I live in Rochedale South, have come to watch your show twice enjoyed it thourghly, the kids loved it. Have been out & seen some excellent displays but yours tops them all in my opinion, one comment that was made was how many light displays do people sit out the front & watch for 20mins, great job & thanks for the effort.

  • Thanks! Yeah, I was pretty surprised -- one night we had a family that stayed out the front for almost 3 hours, just watching them over and over, and talking to people that came by. :-)

    Merry Christmas, everyone! :-D

  • i've seen this (or something very similar) in youtube about two years ago, but it was in the states...

  • Yeah, that's why I decided to do this song -- strangely enough, it's the most popular one. :-) I think because people recognize it as "the same as that one I saw on the internet a few years ago".... :-)
