Brandon McCarthy was hit by a line drive to the head he is recovering from a 2 hour surgery for his skull.

Not really. Pitchers do get hit a decent amount, but they're usually lucky enough to get it in the ankle or shin or something. Very rarely do they get hit in the head. But when they do, it can be tragic. We are very lucky the ball didn't get him in the temple. If it got his temple dead on, he would have likely had a blood clot and died within hours.

yeah i was thinking the same thing. when i first heard about it,based on what happened, i expected to see him being taken off on a stretcher. what a trooper! ion a side note i heard he just got out of the hospital today and plans to return when he's able , which if i were a betting man would be 2013. evewn IF we make it to the post-season that's a bit to soon a return imo.
