There are a dozen ways to look at The Prestige as a precursor for Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. Batman Begins is The Pledge (something ordinary isn't as it seems - Bruce Wayne becomes Batman). The Dark Knight is The Turn (ordinary does something extraordinary - Batman becomes the hero Gotham deserves). The Dark Knight Rises is The Prestige (long story short - Batman disappears and then comes back and rises to the occasion).
There are many examples that might serve as unintentional nods to how the legend might end. We all know Chris Nolan never does anything by accident and The Prestige embodies his spirit as a storyteller in many ways.
Hiding an injury to trick an audience.
Becoming another person entirely.
Keeping a secret about who you really are.
A beautiful woman as a decoy on stage: Catwoman?
You've got to get your hands dirty: Kill Batman?
...and many more.
Anyway, in this scene, I believe that we may get an idea of what the cane that Bruce Wayne sports in The Dark Knight Rises may be all about. Could he be playing the people of Gotham as more than just a playboy billionaire? Could he need more than that to prove he is not the Batman? The cane may be that tool. Or he's just really injured. Either way, this scene felt like a nod to me. Bruce Wayne is the type of man that could make that type of commitment, much like the Asian magician in The Prestige.
Someone turned your theory into a video trailer for Dark Knight Rises. Check it out man its a great trailer, as good as the theatrical trailer if not better IMO.

Insightful, and AWESOME. You always get that feeling that the Prestige and Nolan's Batman trilogy share many themes, So so cool. Thanks for sharing.
