Hollywood seems to have it in for Los Angeles in films such as Earthquake and Them!. In the original War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells (1898), it was London that was destroyed by Martians. For Orson Welles' radio version (1938), it was New York City. The 1953 Hollywood version did in Los Angeles, especially City Hall.
