I think this stereotype does disservice to men and women. I generally find men to be out-of-control emotional and totally unpredictable, because they usually bottle up their emotions for as long as possible because "men aren't emotional." But when they finally burst, they rage and it's totally illogical and crazy. I can never predict when a man will get mad.

But society tells us that anger and rage are not emotions, that's just being manly. But when a woman cries, well that's emotional!

I don't think we guys can even begin to understand what it's like to deal with the emotions and physical manifestations from the dozen of hormones involved in a woman's monthly cycle. For us, it's basically testosterone only, a burst every 20 minutes or so... and an overwhelming desire to know at all times where the TV remote control is residing.

IIRC, birth control pills are promoted as period control because parents are more likely to allow their teenage daughters to take them if they're seen as period control with the contraceptive treated almost like a mere side-effect.
