that twin was built in the chek republic used to be at the airfield at youngs field many years ago as was the globeswift wich belonged to brian cambell in those days
@SenorSpode Buddy's Beech Craft took off with a light coat of "Ice" on the entire top surface of the aircraft. The combination of the "Loss of Lift" and "extra weight" (Of the ice) caused the crash.
The pilot was unable to leave "Ground Effect" and "stalled in"
An eye witness stated the aircraft never reached more than 50 feet above ground level.
@James1toknow Ricky Nelson's plane encountered inflight fire during VMC and force-landed in a field in Texas. Holly's pilot flew into IMC and crashed into a farm field in Iowa.
@rayw295 Incorrect. Ricky Nelson and his entourage did indeed die in a DC-3: he was on tour when smoke developed inflight. The pilot force-landed in a Texas field; by that time, smoke and flames engulfed the tail. The aircrew jumped out once stopped.
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and pilot Roger Peterson were killed in a 1947 Beechcraft Model 35 Bonanza with V-tail.
