Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search is St. Louis' largest distributor of free food, supplying 300 food pantries, homeless shelters, women's shelters, and other emergency food programs in the St. Louis Bi-State region. Every month, over 1.5 million pounds of food and personal items are collected and distributed to 120,000 individuals in need.
In addition to food collection and distribution, Operation Food Search teaches nutrition education classes to children, teens, parents, and senior citizens through its Operation Frontline program. The Operation Back Pack program distributes back packs of kid-friendly, nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods to kids in St. Louis area schools. This provides a crucial bridge of nutrition for children who go home on weekends to houses without any food.
Through their innovative green initiatives, Furniture to Food and Metal to Food, Operation Food Search is able to provide sound, cost-effective, and environmentally-friendly solutions to businesses trying to dispose of used office furniture and equipment. This saves companies time, money, and valuable resources while helping feed hungry families in St. Louis.
