  • Whether DT drags his thumb too much or not enough is a matter of personal opinion. Whether it's annoying, fascinating, or boring is again a matter of personal opinion - it's subjective. The difference between a major and a minor chord is a single note (relative minor), so there's nothing wrong or strange about playing slide over a minor key. In the end, music is like food: everyone has different tastes. Pick out and eat only the stuff you like, and don't worry about the rest. Everyone wins.

  • Buckthead nah..seriously? One single note Derek plays has more soul than everything Buckethead has ever recorded. I'm talking about music, feelings... not "precision".

  • Where did the Buckethead comparison come from? Im a big Buckethead fan, but I dont think hes better than Derek. Derek is something in his own right. They both are amazing. The only reason people would pick Buckethead is because he does some crazy shredding. Derek can shred too, he just chooses to play slide more often and have more structure to his soloing. He might even be more technical than Bucekthead, with his incorporation of modal jazz and Raga, for example.

  • @kralecmit I've had the pleasure of seeing him, his wife, and recently them together. Met him briefly and his humbleness shows thru. Just a nice guy all around (let alone an awesome musician!)

  • @royalrider33 I'M 50 YRS OLD AND I COMPLETELY AGREE. THIS KID HAD A DESTINY.

  • @ROYGRIP TOTALLY TRUE, RIGHT ON POINT.

  • Derek Trucks is the best now days. for sure. Warren Hayes is right behind him.

  • comon RL Burnside is the best ever with a slide, A glass slide that is. Big difference glass and metal. Derek took allot from Mr Burnside. the great RL BURNSIDE.

  • @PeyotePaul If there is one who can match and possibly best Derek it has to be Jack Pearson. They have played together quite a bit, Jack was an ABB guitarist in the late 90's and is as good as they come, including slide. Better, best? Who's to say? I just enjoy them both. I will say that I truly miss Jeff Healey. He could give any of them a run for their money!

  • did david lynch direct this solo because it just blew my mind!
