@StormyPeak that makes more sense that something broke you can see the way he's riding he is off of his stirrups. You just hate to think that a guy that makes his living doing that would just loose his stirrup. Oh well I bet he double checked his tack the next ride out. Probably replaced his stirrup straps also for good measure hehe.

I couldn't tell from the poor video quality...but it could also be he broke a stirrup....thus also, why the horse shied the way it did.

thatt's was all the riders fault. He lost his tirrups(Notice how he was riding on his but and not crouched) @1:15 it looked like the rider fell asleep on the horse! lol. Not so much a Incredible Recovery as a Incredible blunder. He nearly cost that horse and the owner the race.

Obviously a hugely talented horse but this is just so dangerous!! If this horse continues to do this he will cause a major accident.
