The TADA! Thank You Song. In Celebration of the 2008 Coming Up Taller Award.

TADA! Youth Theater and our Ensemble program have been named as recipients of the Coming Up Taller Award, the nation's highest honor for youth development programs in the arts and humanities. The award was presented to Artistic & Executive Director Nina Trevens by First Lady Laura Bush on November 14, 2008.

The Coming Up Taller is an initiative of the Presidents Committee on the Arts and the Humanities in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The awards recognize and support outstanding community arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of young people, and provide them with new learning opportunities and a chance to contribute to their communities.

In response to the award, we spoke to our kids about how they thought we should spread the word, and one of them suggested that they sing for the people who give us money. We loved the idea and enlisted Tony Award-winning composer Michael Rupert to write a song of thanks, and scheduled our Day of Thanks. On December 11 a small groups of kids will visit the offices of our funders all around the city and borrow a few minutes of their time for the kids to sing a song and let their full staff know that we simply couldnt have been this successful without them.

That was an absolutely beautiful performance!I hope your program continues for many years in the future.I have personally seen the change that art has made in young people's future.I am a mentor from a program called Express Yourself which received the Coming Up Taller Award this year in 2009.
