Young People & Youth Workers protest in Dublin about cuts to youth services.

27th of January 2010

A total of 33,790 young people participated in CDYSB funded youth projects/services in Dublin in 2008.
·Its costs approximately €420,000 per year per child for residential care
·It costs €270,000 per individual per year to keep a prisoner in Portlaoise
·It costs €106,800 per individual per year to keep young offenders at St. Patricks Institute
·It costs the State €3 billion in 2006 for mental health problems.
·It costs between €621 and €2733 per week fordrug rehabilitation
·The total CDYSB budget for youth projects and services and backup support was less than €20 million in 2008.
·Based on 33,790 young people availing of the projects and services in 2008 this works out at less than €12 per young person per week.

  • How much is it to house a prisoner in portlaoise if they took away the playstations, X boxes, Satelite TV, Takeaways delivered to prisoners etc and put them 10 to a cell where their only passtime was breaking rocks how much money could u free up?
