Peacekeeper commits suicide

The decease of the Georgian soldier in Iraq is being investigated both by the coalition army and the Georgian side. All costs associated with the repatriation and funeral will be covered by the Georgian Ministry of Defense. The incident took place on the territory of military base "Delta" in the city Kalkuta on 30 September. According to the preliminary information, Zurab Chighoshvili, corporal of the logistic battalion of the 3rd Infantry Brigade committed a suicide following a few text messages received on the phone. The reasons of this will be established by the investigation.

Archil Mamageishvili (Deputy Head of the Military police Department): - An unfortunate accident took place -- Corporal Zurab Chighoshvili, who was on a peacekeeping mission in Iraq, committed a suicide. Investigation is already on. We are working on the theory that it was a suicide caused by social factors. We are able to make such statements based on the evidence from witnesses who were questioned at the spot.
