Was Tibetan theocracy before Dalai Lama fled China really a Shangri-La?Or rather, lies, serfdom, torture, mutilation and paradise only for the noble class? To contradict the common Tibet image in the imagination of Westerners, this National Geographic documentary revealed the true face of Tibet before Tibet returned to Chinese rule again --- a land where most residents were awaiting liberation from the dark age of serfdom, which of course shook the interests of land possessers and noble class, who finally initiated the 1959 revolt against Beijing in reaction to the drastic agricultural reform.
