remarks about what they dress in.Come on can't you figure out anything better to end your video with?It just made you sound like a childish bully!

They are petitioning to change the law!Do you live in Kentucky? What do you mean our roads?Last time I checked the Amish lived here and the roads are also theirs. They pay taxes despite what some people think. You are nothing more than a want to be reporter that didn't do his homework.I think you should really find out what exactly is going on before you make a video that makes you look like a complete moron. Now that you know your video is crap lets address you childish Continued below

They have tried to compromise by using reflective tape on their buggies and lanterns.I understand what you are saying about fallowing the law,But what about their right to freedom of religion?
-
@danxenatro Yeah, I agree with you on the non-special treatment. But, as they offered to do something about it and the police still denied them that, I think that's messed up. I don't know much about the use of reflective tape, but I would think that using it on their usual roads (which to my knowledge are not that frequented, but I'm assuming here) would be more than enough, and the police seem to be harassing them because they're not doing EXACTLY as they're being told.

@windsorgirl1 The law is certainly not infallible. Laws can be bad, and many are, and many more have been. But ignoring the rules simply because you don't like them doesn't mean there should be no punishment. If you choose a path of civil disobedience to prove a point or make a change, that's fine - but you don't get special treatment just because there was an objective behind your delinquency.
-
I'm with you on this one, mr dan.
-
@windsorgirl1 How did you get that? He said "Follow the rules or change them. You can't simply defy them."
-
@danxenatro Hmmm, it almost sounds as if you think the law is infallible :). I suppose in an ideal world, one can safely assume that anything that makes it as a law should be for the good of everyone, but this world isn't. It's understandable that many groups always want to put their beliefs and privileges above anything merely by virtue of their faith on them. But, this whole Amish thing just seems so ridiculous, on both sides. C'mon, Amish aren't driving buggies in the city, are they?

@calmreason We have similar accommodations for turbans in some Canadian provinces. In BC you don't need a helmet if you wear a turban, but a man in Ontario (where I live) recently took the province to court to gain an exception and it was refused. His logic was that he was willing to take the risk of permanent injury, but the province rightly pointed out that he would be a burden on the healthcare system and qualify for disability benefits.
I believe these Amish did offer to put up reflective tape in place of the bright colored triangle, but the police said no. I don't follow too much on what's going on, but shouldn't that have been enough?

@windsorgirl1 It isn't enough if it doesn't meet the requirements of the law. If the law is too strict, they can petition the government to change the law or make an exemption for them, and if the government changes the law, I have no objection. That's how it's supposed to work. Follow the rules or change them. You can't simply defy them.
