It's almost not a cover. If Doc Tess were still in Animal Collective, she would have been performing the original with "her boys." I think this song is meant as a sweet gesture toward her former bandmates.

I don't know, I liked AC's but it just is a different sound than what I generally listen to. As much as I love AC I usually listen to more world/jazz/acoustic-esque stuff, so I prefer this.
Not to insult Animal Collective, first time I heard "My Girls" it was stuck in my head for months (eventually bringing me back to it, and then here to reply.)
