BACKSTORY: 'Say Goodbye' was written for 'Piece.' It is one of the few songs that I have written that isn't personal to me. I have personal lines in the song that I took from my own life, but the song isn't about me, or about any place I have been.




Well, let me rephrase that. It WASN'T about me when I wrote it, but the longer I have been in this business, the more I have become this song. I have made work my life, and have pushed love away, constantly, so that I can keep striving towards succeeding. Funny how art mirrors reality sometimes.

Say Goodbye was never intended for 'Dreaming Wide Awake.' It was intended for Lauren Kennedy's new CD 'Here and Now.' She recorded it with her full orchestra, laid down the vocals and then, just as I was waiting to hear a final version, I heard 'this song isn't going to make the final cut.' I was DEVASTATED. Her CD was featuring the 'who's who' of today's composers and I just wanted, for one moment, to feel like I was part of the club. Yet, it wasn't meant to be.

Obviously, the song made it onto the CD. And I know now why it didn't make it onto Lauren's CD. It was meant to be on mine. Katie Thompson is brilliant at telling a story and this was her story to tell.




Obviously, this video isn't of Katie, but of Natalie Weiss, an amazing young and fresh New Voice who has an incredible career and journey waiting around the corner for her.
