Joe Satriani nasceu em 15 de Julho de 1956, na cidade de Westbury, Nova York. Aprendeu a tocar Folk, Blues e Jazz com seu pai, tio e amigos. Em 1971, começou a dar aulas e a ficar conhecido como professor. Joe teve alguns alunos que ficaram famosos, como David Bryson (Counting Crows), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Alex Skolnick (Savatage, Testament) e ainda ninguém menos que Steve Vai. Em São Francisco, no ano de 1979, montou a banda pop The Squares com Andy Milton (baixo) e Jeff Camipelli (bateria). O The Squares durou até 1983 e no ano seguinte, Satriani gravou um EP com cinco músicas em que haviam somente guitarras.

Just when I thought I gave up on trust because I've never met a woman I can trust this song makes me want to try again. Life isn't easy, but there is beauty in this world and every note that pours out of Joe's soul inspires me to be a better musician and a better person. God bless him; his music has kept my peace when I was tired of it all. Life is worth living; and if you think that the cards are stacked against you, then listen to the accomplishments of this man and strive to be better.
