Created on March 1, 2011 using FlipShare. So, my mom told me about an Ex-BN unit in Maumee. Josh (modelrailroader4157) and I headed out to see it. It was being preped for operations when we saw it. It then left as a light engine move towards Toledo, Ohio. We chased it to a few crossing Such as Michigan Avenue in Maumee (the cantilevered crossing) and a railroad crossing in Toldeo near Heatherdowns Library. At that railroad crossing (at 3:25 in the video) a School bus pulled a little close to the tracks and almost got hit by the crossing gate! The bus was legal & was behind the white line but, the gate ends up on the white line when lowered. The unit was a neat Ex-BN SD40-2 which you don't see often around our area. • @modeysdad 10- 15 feet?!, mabe, 3 feet. Not even close. Not that hard to figure out.

  • @modeysdad Yeah, this line like I said was a little close to the gate. This is probably the closest white line to the gate I've seen yet

  • @metraF40PH163 I'm glad to hear they backed up when they crossed the white line. I can only speak for me and the drivers I work with. We pull up to the line every time. Any further back and we can't see around the buildings and obstructions near the track. I can't speak for other states but in my state there is a specific number of feet between the bar and the line. If I remember it right it is 15ft. A coworker of mine is a 30+ year railroad retiree. We talk about trains at work a lot. :)

  • @modeysdad Well, they put it in reverse & then relized they were behind the line but, barely. It is legal what this bus driver did but, most bus drivers will stay farther behind the line for increaed safety incase of derailments or being rear ended. Even though the white line was there the gate is alomst over the line & makes for close clearences. The main focus I had in the video was on the train but, you are right
