I've been carrying the Taurus PT1911 for 3 years as my primary concealed carry handgun. I figured it was time to let people know how I felt about it.

  • Im looking for a good reliable semi automatic Im a revolver person due to the heaviness to absorb recoin and less likelyness to jam. I wanted to qualify for my CHL on semi automatic its between a 1911 and a high end polymer frame gun a relative would like to sell me, how does this compare to most polymer framed guns or do you have a video comparing something like this?

  • @MrAshisogijizo I have not done a video on it, but I'll give you all I can squeeze in here:

I carry 1 of 2 pistols: my 1911 (easier to hide) or my XD45 (more rounds). The XD is a poly gun. If a 1911 knocked up a Glock, they'd have an XD.

They kick very differently. I think it is because of the springs. If you're looking for something with weight to keep the muzzle down with 45ACP, go with a "cheap" 1911. (My Kimber is so light it annoys me.) But a poly pushing 9mm doesn't kick too bad.

  • what is your height and weight.. ive been looking to carry 1911 and have been noticing guys similar to my size carrying them... that is if you dont mind me asking.. thanks

  • @shroomzie I'm 6' and weigh 190ish. If you have a waist, the 1911 will lay flat against you. Big love handles could push the grip away from the body making it more visible.

  • The safety is there for lawyers not us .

  • You mean 38oz

  • Regarding the ambidextrous safety, mine is extremely crisp. There's no "wiggle" like how you were showing. Also, I'd like to add, there is also checkering on the back of the grip (like in the front) which also helps it stick in your hand like Velcro.

    Great review. Thanks Gotprep.

  • Really good review! I am in the market for a 1911 and someone told me about this brand and I have NEVER heard of it... I like how you broke it down and it seems to be a really good back for your buck 1911... Any issues so far or anything that you would recommend for it other than good break down/cleaning and good ammunition?

You mention it's a heavy gun, any way of getting weight removed via milling or is that not worth it?

    Thanks,

    -Nigel

  • i love the 1911 the fell really good in my hand i carry the full size as well

  • The safety problem is just that their loose just grip them on each side with a pair of pliers squeeze them back together and maybe put a shirt around it to not scratch them. It happens a lot with my $1200 Springfield Armory. I just make sure there tight before i leave the house with that gun. (Sorry if this has already been posted a 100 times).

  • @gotprep Good review. Im looking for a simple home defense gun to have by my bed and take shooting on the weekends. I couldnt tell, but does this gun allow for attachments such as lights? I couldnt tell if it was notched to accomodate a light. Thanks

  • I like what you said, its a blue collar gun. haha nice
