@MillBelater It's funny that you mention that one MadTV episode, because when I saw it I too thought this is just like Johann Gambolputty. But that's a good example of why you are wrong: the MP Gambolputty sketch is in the middle of the long election sketch, it's just ONE joke inside an amazing sketch. On MadTV it's the entire sketch. And this is the SNL formula: think of one joke, then do it over and over for 10 minutes. The opposite of MP.

@greg5566 It is. Look closely at SNL, Mad TV and other Sketch Shows. Lots of their sketches are nothing but changes in location and character of a MP premise. MAD TV did a blatant rip of of 'Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern -schplenden -schlitter -crasscrenbon -fried -digger -dingle -dangle -dongle -ETC. Will Sasso and Debra Wilson did something with names that was almost identical.

I remember watching these when I was a kid, just being bowled over by the quality of every episode. Compared to the stuff on American TV, it was no contest.
