I built this top of the hour ID with various actual, but separate, material originally from the 60s. The audio track is from my own collection, and I had to re-sync it to the video of the P-J opening. Titles added separately.

WHDH-TV Channel 5, would be circa late 1960's.

  • Nice work, I like these re-creations.

One little quibble, that's the wrong version of the Petticoat Junction theme song -- it's the version from after Bea Benaderet's death.

  • Thanks. Well, that's something I never would have realized, and even if so, I use what I have available anyway, and that's what I had available.

  • more 60's audio stuff!!!

  • It was no later than 1967 that WHDH-TV was using the multicolored "5" logo with the circle lodged within the "5", as seen in the Red Sox special VintageTelevision has posted from that year. That was the logo that lasted until 'HDH's shut-off in March 1972.

  • "They" (WHDH/Herald-Traveler) weren't the ones who had the fortune of surviving to possibly change their network affiliation if they wanted or had to - it was the death of WHDH-TV 5 in 1972 altogether that caused it. BBI took over the assignment and launched 'CVB under a brand new license at that time.

In fact, Herald-Traveler was so snubbed of their license stripping by the FCC that they refused to let BBI use their Morrissey Blvd. studios to house the new Channel 5.

  • Very nice...thanks for the clip....I had never seen a WHDH-TV Channel 5 vid until now.

This was back when the station was affiliated with CBS. They took ABC when they changed their name to WCVB in '72 because CBS refused to have anything to do with them because of their committment to local programming which involved pre-empting CBS shows.
