What he's doing is adding his own creative input to an old classic. It's called 'jamming'! And Jack Bruce had the highest regard for Rory.

Rory wrote most of his own songs, and always brought a new freshness and bite to those he chose to cover. He didn't see any point in just producing a clone of the original.
