The amazing part about this movie is when I saw it as a kid I did not get all of this--only thought she had a sad story to tell. I can't think of any other wester kid movie that has such adult under tone...

@chuckjj I think the apple can represent more than sex. Love, trust, hope. In the context it can turn out anyway. That is the beauty of being able to see and interpret stuff differently :).
