Umm...Obama has indicated his decision also rides on this election as Insurgency may increase. Should he send 40K troops, more than 40K troops, or less than 40K. The problems in AFG is not insurgency (IMO), but the Taliban/Al Qaeda. However, to fight the real threats we need to consider the insurgents who might support Taliban/Al Qaeda if we back an invalid president.

I don't know why the US values Karzai so much.
I realize they've invested quite a lot in the guy, but if he's corrupt then why bother with him?
Just discard him and work with the real winner, and/or with local tribes on the ground.
