A montage of my two wonderful littermate sisters (Irina & Alena) with 10 months old by now. 2nd video now available: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl3V1N_GItE
Yes, they have a superb pedigree (JCh. Ch. ChPan. Russian Gold Zabor X JCh. ChBRA. ChURU. ChPan. GrChPan. ChInt. and World Champion Russian Gold Lenka)
But most important: this girls are extraordinary friends! Kind, loyal, funny and totally reliable. A friendship for lifetime!

  • @andrejbartko Generally they come when called even when running with other dogs. As for cats or other small animals I can't tell since I never let them loose in such situations. It wouldn't be wise nor responsible. Borzoi are great hunters with amazing prey drive and mine are not different... I just respect that.

If you allow me a suggestion buy the book "A Puppy's Journey" by Chris Danker. Maybe this can help you understand the dynamics of obedience for the breed.

  • @JustBorzoi Good to hear. Does you borzoi come when called? I mean not at home but when he is running with other dogs or after a cat? If yes I'd love to hear more how did you train him to do that. Mine most of time doesn't listen to commands when he is focused on something else.

  • @andrejbartko Have to say obedience classes worked pretty well for us. I was with them all the time though. I'm quite sure things would be very different if they didn't have basic obedience. I travel with them without problems, sometimes with large groups of dogs (includins small/toys) and they never get in trouble even when off leash. So I insist: obedience is a must as well as good socialization - like you mentioned.

  • @rikardolopez1986 Eu sou brasileira, assim como as Borzoi desse vídeo - e nosso novo amigo, um filhote branco e preto. Acho que já é hora de fazer um novo vídeo com o mais recente membro da família ;)

  • @JustBorzoi HI just, tell me one thing are u portuguese??

    =)

  • @JustBorzoi Obedience classes aren't actually very good for them as they are hard to motivate and easily can become stubborn and opportunistic and they wouldn't really give a toss and listen to a trainer whom they don't know from before. If you walk them of the lead it is possible but you have to keep the active contact with the dog otherwise he will do his own stuff. Socializing is important. that makes them gentle towards small dogs, but they would still chase them though.

  • @CaterpillarGiraffe They would be very similar. Borzois are born sprinters for short distances. Pretty much as greyhounds but they are bigger stronger and better in cornering which makes them unbeatable in open field coursing . These animals are wild in the heart. It's not like any other dog. It does have it's own mind and really wants to chase anything what moves. When they are focused on something it's really hard to get their attention. I've got one. I jog every morning 5km and he loves it.

  • @CaterpillarGiraffe Yay!!! This is great news! I'm really happy for you and your new Zoi :))

I bet by now you should already be in love with him - and vice versa. Can't wait to see his video ;)

    Wishing you the very best!

  • @JustBorzoi Thanks for your reply, much appreciated :) Funny thing the Deerhound didn't work out and we have a Borzoi now, he was born June 7th. He is a great dog and a great companion with our other dog (a bullmastiff) We love Borzoi so far!

  • @CaterpillarGiraffe Unfortunately I don't know much about Scottish Deerhounds. As for Borzoi they are primarily sprinters... breakneck speed is their specialty. However I know some owners who take their Borzoi for jogging - but bear in mind that this (jogging) should be done gradually and preferably after they complete their bone development (1 year old or more). As for brisk walks Borzoi usually like/love it - unless you live in a very hot region. Sorry for my delay to answer :(
