  • This is a well done video, but man, could you please put up a warning to maybe turn down the volume? I don't mean to be an ass or anything, it's just REALLY REALLY loud and I think it could literally damage someone's hearing. I was wearing some closed-ear headphones at a moderately high volume while watching the video and then I got blasted almost out of my chair and took the headphones off immediately.

  • sorry, that was actually my intention. If it hurts you, then it hurts me too.

  • @Stinger911

i added a warning and i hope that prevent the problem.

  • Glad to hear that.

  • so the main point of this was that new implant models work better than old ones? wouldnt that be obvious?

  • not necessarily. The new one doesnt sound any better than the old one but works well with the old one. If you were to ask me which ear is dominant, it would be the old one.

  • Rather than appreciating your video for all its subtle nuances, I fear many viewers will just remember it as "that loud ass noise video I'm never watching again" or as a prank video, not unlike those prank maze games where a scary monster pops out of nowhere.

  • Keep in mind, the noise actually distracted me from the visual sequence because I was in shock and too busy flinging my headphones off. I watched that sequence again with the volume way down, and it's a really powerful visual sequence. I think the noise being that loud is totally unnecessary and disengages the viewer from what's going on on-screen.

  • Well, I understand it was your intention. You really wanted to drive home the point of how excruciating of an ordeal getting the cochlear implant in can be, and you certainly did. I'm just concerned that this video could potentially cause lasting damage to someone's hearing, especially if they are wearing headphones. I actually turned the video up quite a bit during the heartbeat sequence, and after the loud noise sequence, I almost resented you as a filmmaker for doing that to your viewer.

  • I love this, it's one of my favorite short films.

Does anyone know what the song he's listening to is?

  • I am trying to let my students in 2nd 3rd grade understand what it is like to be deaf and I was researching the internet when I found this video. Very well done by the way. I am a producer and editor turned teacher and I appreciate the way you expressed in pictures and sound what it is like. Thank you.

  • Wow. That made me cry. I was suggested to look this video up by my daughters preschool teacher. No one in my family has ever had hearing loss, but my daughter is profoundly deaf. She was given her first implant thsi year, and for the first couple of months she was hysterical when it was turned on and I didn't understand why. This gave me insight into my daughters world, I can't thank you enough for making this. I loved the symbolism in it, too. - Inez
