Creating panic is a shameful way to get ratings. This is the key weakness of the modern press - it's integrity can be bought via ad revenues (either the threat of their removal or the promise of increase.)
This is a seriously matter. While arousing people's interest is laudable, causing undue social disturbance and possibly paralysis through sensationalistic reporting, is irresponsible.
